A Guide to Carl Uncover Current Awareness and Document Delivery Services for
IUP Users

The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries is a computerized network of
library services. Carl Uncover is the database maintained by this group that
includes references to over one million articles and tables of contents to over
17,000 journals in many disciplines. You can use this database to locate items
on specific topics and to order them for a fee.  Uncover and its Reveal service
are particularly useful for browsing and identifying recent articles.

UnCover /Reveal is an e-mail current awareness service provided by Carl Uncover
of particular interest to faculty and graduate students who would like to keep
abreast of the current literature in their fields. This service delivers the
tables of contents of chosen journals as they are published and the results of
stored searches weekly by e-mail to registered participants.  Users can store
up to 25 searches and order the table of contents of up to 50 periodicals.

Costs for profiling and article delivery: 

Profiling. Carl Uncover charges individuals an annual fee for Reveal current
awareness accounts. This service is free to IUP faculty, staff, and students
with e-mail accounts ending in iup.edu because the Library has purchased a site
license.

Article Delivery. Articles located in the CARL Uncover database can be ordered
through Interlibrary Loan at Stapleton Library. Though orders will be placed
through regular Interlibrary Loan channels unless otherwise specified, it is
possible to order articles for 24-hour delivery through Carl Uncover, but some
additional costs may be involved.  The Library will cover costs up to $25.00
per article for University faculty and graduate students. Costs in excess of
$25.00 must be paid prior to the processing of requests submitted through Carl
Uncover. 

Subscribing to CARL Uncover's Reveal Service:

· Connect to UnCover/Reveal. http://uncweb.carl.org/reveal/
· Click on Reveal for new users and select Create a profile.
· Enter personal information, including at least your name, a password of your
choice, and your e-mail address.
· Skip payment method.
· Write down your profile number and password. You will need this information
to store searches and journal titles for table of contents delivery!
· Click on Save Profile.
· Exit the system and wait 24 hours before attempting to choose subjects or
titles for the current awareness service.  
 
 
 Choosing journal titles for table of contents delivery:
 
· Connect to Uncover/Reveal.  http://uncweb.carl.org/reveal/
· Click on Reveal for new Users and select I have a profile.
· Enter your profile number and password and click on Enter Reveal.
· Click on View or Add Reveal Titles.
· At the next screen type a journal title in the Journal Title Search box and
click on Search.
· Carl Uncover will check for this journal in its database and provide a list
of likely titles. Click on the title you want.
· Information about the chosen periodical will appear. If you would like to
receive the table of contents of this journal as it is published, then click on 
"Add Reveal Tile."
· Your Reveal Journal titles list is automatically updated.

 Storing Author or Keyword Searches:
 
· Connect to Uncover/ Reveal. http://uncweb.carl.org/reveal/
· Click on Reveal for new Users and select I have a profile.
· Enter your profile number and password and click on Enter Reveal.
· Click on "View or Add Reveal Searches."
· Click on "Add Reveal Searches."
· Enter your search term, and select "Keyword" or "Author" and click on "Add
Search."
· Your Reveal Searches list is automatically updated. 

If you forget your profile number or password:
