Biographical Note

The Workingmen's Club was organized in August 1937 in St. Michael, PA. (Cambria County) The Club provided an area for informal socializing among the members of the community. Card games, pool, and dances were popular forms of entertainment at the Club, with music provided by the local bands. A library was assembled by the Club's Ladies' Auxiliary, and WPA citizenship classes and U.S. naturalization classes were also held at the Club. The Club met at the Thomas Lloyd Building, which they shared with UMWA Local #3648. Although it flourished through the 1960's waning membership forced the Club to disband in 1986.
