Dr. James Kermit Stoner, 1910-1995, was a professor in IUP’s School of Business for 26 years, having first taught in many area High Schools. He was founder of IUP’s Delta Pi Episilon business fraternity and also served on the board of directors of Penelec. He was highly involved in community affairs, holding memberships in the VFW Post 1989, the Kiwanis Club (a 50 year member) the Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross, as well as the Business Advisory Council of IUP. For over 17 years, Stoner created a weekly column, “Ham With Wry,” published in the Indiana Gazette, which were later collected into popular volumes. In addition, he was the author of 2 high school textbooks in marketing and retailing, numerous articles in professional magazines, and freelance articles in several house publications.

Series A: Correspondence
These papers reflect the life achievements of J.K. Stoner, who was given an “Outstanding Teacher” award by IUP. There is also a bound volume of his dissertation: “An Analysis of the Accounting System and Practices of Small, Independent Retail Businesses.” Other materials in the series, contained in boxes 1, 2, and 3, include the records of Stoner’s military career.
Series B: Scrapbooks
This series of two scrapbooks, in boxes four and five, contain material on Stoner’s retirement and his membership in the Kiwanis Club and other community organizations.
Series C: Photographs
This series, in box 5, contains photographs of the 1996 J.K. Stoner display in Stapleton Library, personal photographs of crafts and paintings by Dr. Stoner, and a photo of an unidentified social occasion. (original and 3 copies) The photos have been placed in mylar to preserve them.
Series D: “Ham With Wry:” Xerox copies; columns dated l980-l992. This material, stored in Box 6, includes index cards referring to characters created by Dr. Stoner
